It is necessary to back up your important files into an external hard drive in case your computer accidently damage or can not start. Once you have the USB cable plugged into your computer’s ports, you can save files you would like on the external hard drive. Don’t use an USB hub to connect with the hard drive. USB hub may not provide enough power.

Then open the files and folders you want to save on your external hard drive. Two possibilities are here. If you just want to save a couple of things, you can open each item, right click on file-save as-and choose the drive that was assigned to your external hard drive. Then it starts to save. If you have large files to save, you’d better to open a window for your external hard drive. Click the files you want to save and drag them to the window.

The final one is to carefully disconnect the drive. Before you disconnect the drive, make sure you have all the files you want to save. Then you can unplug the drive.
