Nowadays, everyone has a lot of files in the hard drive. There are digital camera albums, useful e-mails, work loggings ect. All of them may be very important to you. Then how to back up your files through external hard drive?

First, you should choose an external hard drive as large as the hard drive in your computer. Usually, the capacity of the external hard drive is a little less than it was labeled. You should choose a little larger capacity. For example, if you want to back up a 300GB hard drive, you’d better choose an external one no less than 320GB in case of capacity insufficient.

Then, connect your external hard drive to the computer, using the following way to back up your files manually:

Look at you computer screen and click the button Start on the lower left corner, then point System Tools, click Backup . There would appear a backup page. If you haven’t seen the Backup option, which means you should install the backup tool first. If the backup page comes out, click Next. Then you will see Backup or Restore page, click Next. Then What to back up page appears, you choose All information on this computer, click Next. You will see Backup Type.Destination.and Name page, select the hard drive you want to back up. Then click Next. Completing the Backup or Restore Wizard comes, click Finish. Finally is the Back up progress page, you should click cloze if it finished.

Remember if you have your files changed or you have created new files, you should back up your files again. The external hard drive won’t save them for you automatically.

If you want to have stronger protection, you can have the second copy of the external hard drive and put it in a safer place.
