Why are polarized electrical outlets used?

Postby Sean » Sun Dec 06, 2009 9:22 am

In a remote outlet, people developed different sized slots to let outlets to be polarized aas a safety enhancement. Usually the common wire in the outlet connectes the larger to the common wire in a eletrical equipment. The smaller slot is connected to the hot wires. In the way the smaller blade of a plug surely connect the hot wires, so the remote outlet is polarized. Electrical equipment, for example a computer, are designed to decrease the risk of electric shock by keeping the hot wire as short as possible by wiring directly to the socket. The other of the internal wiring connects to the neutral wire. So the way decreased the risk greatly by limiting the path of live current.
